time just flies when you're having fun

wow---where did this summer go. it seems like it flew by and i didn't accomplish hardly anything i wanted to get done. i have the 54 ford in the shop and have been updating and changing some things for next years cruising season. i will post pics later on as i complete the changes. in the meantime i have a picture of the 60 plymouth that i drove to high school to put on here. it looks a lot like the car in stephen king's christine movie but this was taken way before that movie came out. the pic was taken sometime in 1966. boy just saying that makes me feel old. anyway enjoy the pic and i'll try not to be so long getting a post up next time.

finished for now

well the little 52 truck is all together and roadworthy. it rides and drives great and although it ain't real pretty it is safe and dependable. it has been a real pleasure to build . it is time for it to move on to tennessee now and be in the hands of my grandson and his dad. it will make them an excellent father-son project that can be driven and enjoyed while they work on it. i liked this one so much i think i may build another similiar one as soon as i get a chance. we still have 5 more grandkids to build cars for so at least i'll have plenty of projects to document on my blog. i'm gonna start doing some work on our other cars now that this one is complete. i've got a lot of ideas of what i want to do so we'll see how it goes from here. you'll see all the progress right here. stay tuned for the next chapter. and so it goes

what a great august

we sure have had a lot of fun this month. we started out with the somernites cruise weekend and did some serious cruising with over 1600 other hot rods. a real blast. the following weekend we went to the street rod nationals. over 11000 cars and not near enough time to see them all. as always it was a gearhead's dreamland. we followed that up with a trip to ohio in the merc to attend a big show up there. there was probably about 800 beautiful cars and we had a ball. the little merc performed flawlessly on the trip and got about 21 mpg. the traveling is overfor right now and i'm back to working on the truck project. it's winding down and should be complete in the next week or so. i'll keep you posted. until next time---

busy busy busy

well the 52 S-10 project is up and running. this has been one of the most fun projects i've ever done. i have enjoyed every aspect of this project so far. it doesn't look like much yet but the aim of this one was to build a safe fun vehicle that can be enjoyed without worrying about getting it scratched or dirty. the little 4 cylinder pulls it around nicely and should get good gas mileage. the disc brakes stop it great and the best part is that it's still a 5 speed for shifting pleasure. with just a little more tweaking it will be road ready. now i have a large mess to clean up in my shop before i finish the truck.

until next time

progress report

well i did it. i completely disassembled a perfectly good s-10 and started making an oldie out of it. things went real well and it only took me 2 days to get it all apart and get the ford cab mounted on the chassis. ah but now is when the real work begins. i have to fabricate a complete new floorboard and then figure out where all these wires in this harness go. it should get real interesting. stay tuned---film at 11.

latest project

about time for another post i guess. i started a new project today and i'm hoping it won't be a long term one. i'm going to put a 52 ford pickup body on an s-10 frame. yeah go ahead and call me nuts--lol. i've been wanting to try this for a while so we'll see how it goes. the intention is to leave all the newer components intact---engine--transmission etc.---and put the ford body on and make all the computer stuff work. it will certainly test my fabricating skills and my ingenuity. i have the s-10 nearly stripped and will start putting the ford cab on in the next couple of days.i will put a picture up of the nearly stripped truck. now if i can just figure out where those 10,000 wires go i'll be ok.---to be continued
and so it goes---till next time

first of july rants

i figured it was about time to make another post. we have been pretty busy so far this summer and late july and all of august will be even busier. gotta love it. we took the 54 ford to a local car show last saturday. there were 125 cars there and i was like a kid in a candy store. anybody that knows me knows that i love 'em all. we had a great time and managed to snag a top 100 award. at the end of july we hope to go to the somernites cruise in somerset and take both our cruisers. it should be a great time. i'll try to post some more pictures and if any of you all have pics of any of my cars just send them to me and i'll get them posted.

until next time-----

retirement

hello again
we have been spending time painting our home and getting the yard and garden in shape. this retirement stuff is great but it seems like there is a lot of work to get done. i swear i don't know how i got anything done when i was working. at least now i do have time to feed my automotive addiction. i've been buffing the paint on the mercury and hope to finish it next week.

and so it goes ---till next time

introduction

I have always fooled with cars. Mainly old cars. I like to modify old cars with newer parts to make them more powerful and fun to drive. Let's face it,modern cars lack the styling and character of the old ones.On this blog i will try to take you back in time to a place when life was easier and people were friendlier. I will post both my past and current projects and the progress as i go along.
